I like the new Sovereign class (Enterprise E) and the intrepid class
(Voyager) and the NCC-1701-C's class (Ambassador).
But for me, the best class of a starship is the "Escape Pod Class."
It is fast, lightweight, doesn't rely on weapons, and even in the heat
of Borg/Klingon/any other hostile race vs the Federation battle, it can
escape unnoticed, undetected and unharmed even though sensors have
picked it up.
"Oh, an escape pod has just been ejected! There could be survivors on
there! One might have had his wife killed by us, and might later become
a Captain and be armed with the Federation's latest weaponry and engines
plus a cloaking device and com back to fight us with a vengeance!
Should we shoot it down?"
"No, let it go...."
